How do I paint GRP hulls?

Painting GRP is very much an acceptable practice today. In fact, if you order a new boat from a major manufacturer such as Sunseeker or Oyster, the only natural gel finish will be white; all other colours are a spray finish. GRP is a very stable material so with the right preparation paint systems last well. Hand finishing is most easily achieved using a one pack polyurethane such as International Toplac. Spray finishing is undoubtedly the best way to achieve a perfect finish and two pack polyurethane and epoxy paints create a super strong, long last finish with a high gloss which will retain its colour longer than gel finishes. Of course spray paints unfortunately require professional equipment and workshops.
